Vermicompost Gardening Workshop
How to make your own nutrient dense garden fertilizer by worm composting, or vermicomposting, using red wiggler (Eisenia fetida) worms. Matthew Dolan of the Columbia Center for Urban Agriculture in central Missouri demonstrates how to get started with a homemade indoor worm bin.
MATERIALS LIST: Opaque (not see-through) bin with lid Drill, or something to punch holes through your bin Shredded paper or cardboard (bleach free) Spray bottle with non-chlorinated water Red wiggler worms (Eisenia fetida - Can purchase online from Uncle Jim’s Worm Farm) Sand or grit Fruit/Veggie scraps IN THIS VIDEO:

You CAN feed your red wiggler worms most fruit or vegetable scraps, like banana peels, coffee grounds, apple cores, or potato peels. Please DON’T feed them: citrus fruits (oranges, lemon, limes), onions, garlic, meats, dairy, egg shells (unless they’re ground up to a powder form).
