Planting for the Pantry VISTA
This AmeriCorps VISTA position will report to the Farm Manager in dedicating a year of service to learning and practicing the skill sets necessary to address food insecurity, run a small market farm operation, and how to utilize regenerative farming practices that work with nature to produce high yields in a limited urban space.
Children’s Garden Education VISTA
The AmeriCorps VISTA member will dedicate a year of service as a part of the Youth Education team and report to the Youth Education Program Manager to expand the capacity of the program and to provide a dynamic learning environment for students. The VISTA member will also work with the entire CCUA team during the annual Harvest Hootenanny.
Outreach VISTA
The Outreach VISTA will provide administrative support and will make deeper connections between CCUA and the community through outreach. The VISTA member in this position will share information about CCUA’s resources with organizational partners, volunteers, and program participants by attending community events and managing CCUA’s new Welcome Center Front Desk . The VISTA member will also work with the entire CCUA team during the annual Harvest Hootenanny.
Edible and Native Plants VISTA
The Edible & Native Plants Landscaping VISTA will dedicate a year of service as a part of CCUA’s Foodscaping team to expand the capacity of the department. The person in this position will report to and be supported by the Agriculture Park Foodscaping Manager. The Foodscaping team focuses on the Park’s perennial demonstration gardens, food forest, and stormwater detention basin to showcase different ways in which urban food production can support urban conservation, and vice versa. These spaces grow food at a size and scale that will fit in a typical Columbia backyard, demonstrate fruit-producing varieties that grow well in central Missouri, and act as a learning lab for growing culturally significant plant varieties in Missouri.
Veterans Urban Farm Apprenticeship
The Farmhand Apprenticeship position with CCUA’s Veterans Urban Farm offers a learning experience for Veterans passionate about working outside, sustainable food systems, and growing their own food. The Apprenticeship is designed to prepare Veterans who need a gateway into the workforce. During the Apprenticeship, the Farmhand will learn sustainable and regenerative agriculture methods of vegetable production, landscaping, food safety, and other hands-on skills while working alongside the Veterans Urban Farm team. The Veterans Urban Farm Manager will direct the Farmhand Apprentice on projects, allowing the Apprentice to hone the skills needed to prepare for a desired job/career. The Farmhand will also work to strengthen job skills, set personal goals, and participate in networking opportunities during the Apprenticeship.
